Badge Prototype 1
I got a chance to start working on the Arduino (ninja) badge prototype. This first prototype is inspired but the hackduino project. I wanted to make something functional but didn’t want to mess with etching a board on the first attempt. Since I wasn’t paying attention when I ordered the parts, I accidentally ordered a 5v voltage regulator vs a 3.3v one (LM1117). That should come in tomorrow. All that is currently working is the bare-bones ardunio circuit with a LED flashing. I started to wire in the LCD but stopped when I realized what voltage I had and didn’t want to use a level shifter on this board. After I get the new voltage regulator put in I’ll wire up the LCD and the buttons and write up a test sketch. Here is a picture of the progress.

Nice. So are you implementing the wireless of the ninja badge as well?
I was working on duplicating DC17′s ninja badge, but could never source the displays. Finally I realized that my friend does work over in China, so I’m working on having him do some of the legwork, and get a shipment of them.
@krux
I will eventually get the wireless working. I have another breadboard setup with a display and input buttons that I’m using to port some of the software over. I have kinda hit a wall with the RAM (only 2k) so I haven’t really figured that part out yet.
Haha, funny you mention the DC17 ninja badge. I was just talking to someone last night about making something similar for an event they have coming up in the spring. I was thinking about using the 7 segment LED’s instead of the YETDA’s due to the price difference and availability.
I should have some sort of working demo of this tonight or tomorrow. (still waiting on the voltage regulators.
Well if you don’t mind reworking the eagle files and changing the code, you can find other 16 segment displays. However one’s with that pin-out seem to be no longer made, or something you have to buy in bulk.
@krux
Oh yeah I was thinking you were making your own board/reworking theirs. Do you already have some of the boards already made up?
Yea, I have three boards that I had made when dorkbotpdx was putting in a PCB order.
Nice brief and this post helped me alot in my college assignement. Say thank you you on your information.
Sorry for my bad english. Thank you so much for your good post. Your post helped me in my college assignment, If you can provide me more details please email me.
